Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been embroiled in a strange feud with the Gabonese FA after they announced the forward's father as joint coach of the national football team.
Aubameyang, who has had problems with the Gabonese FA (Fegafoot) in the past, took to Instagram to vent his frustration over the fact that they announced his father, Pierre-Francois Aubameyang as joint coach of Gabon alongside former Rangers footballer Daniel Cousin without finalising the deal first:
You were wondering why I have problems with you, why I don't want to come and play for the national team,
You have told the whole world about my father, the so-called coach of the national team, when you did not even get his agreement!
The president of the federation called my dad but did not even care to ask about his state of health. He's sick at the moment.
To rush out and hold a press conference (on Wednesday) when my father said he would give his answer only the next day is another demonstration of why.
His decision, by the way, is negative. You didn't even give him a chance to negotiate about his staff members or other things.
Aubameyang then wrote that this instance demonstrates how 'amateurish' Fegafoot are before adding that issues like these is why he no longer represents his national team.
Anyway the day the federation stops being amateurish maybe the national team will be able to progress and once again earn some good results.
You ask yourselves why I have problems with you? Why I don't want to come and play for the national team? Well you have just shown why once more.
Fegafoot have since come out with an apology of sorts:
In the wake of a positive telephone interview with Pierre Aubameyang, the minister of youth and Sports in response to the emergency instructed Fegafoot to make the announcement of the coaching staff official by Wednesday night.
In an effort to avoid a problem with the ministry, Fegafoot had to make this coaching appointment public, but not without having informed the coaches concerned.
Our approach was influenced by the good faith we have had with Daniel Cousin and the usual desire expressed by Pierre Aubameyang to manage the national team.
Following the official reaction of Mr Aubameyang, Fegafoot believes this situation could have been avoided in the light of several interested local coaches ready to serve the nation.
