It's a move that has shocked most people. Former Manchester United and Everton player Phil Neville has become the new assistant manager for Valencia. It all seems a bit random.

The former assistant to David Moyes at United had rejected the chance to join Moyes at Real Sociedad, but is now taking the opportunity to move to move to eastern Spain.

Neville is taking over the vacant assistant manager role after former assistant Scot Ian Cathro joined Steve McClaren at Newcastle. Valencia announced the move on their official website. Valencia manager Nuno Espirito Santo is pleased to welcome Neville:

Phil Neville has great experience at the top level of competition, but above all he has knowledge and values that fit perfectly with our team and our club.

Don't worry if it's all a bit confusing, but there's actually a connection between Phil Neville and Valencia:

This move makes a little more sense when you look at the Singaporean businessman who owns Valencia. Peter Lim also has a stake in semi-professional side Salford City, which Neville happens to own along with Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes.
