Speculation over Phil Jones' future look set to end with the Man United defender ready to sign a new contract that would see him earn around £80,000 a week. Jones' current deal of around £50,000 a week is set to run out at the end of the coming season and that had led many to assume that Louis Van Gaal may be looking elsewhere for a first choice centre back.
However, it now looks likely that Jones and Chris Smalling, who has recently signed a similar deal, will be sticking around as valuable members of Van Gaal's defensive set-up.
Despite that, it would not be a huge surprise if United were to still be in the market for a top shelf centre half. Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos has been widely linked with Old Trafford in recent days and while that may still be unlikely, fans will certainly be keen to see some defensive reinforcement brought in if United are to push themselves into a title race next season.
