The new England kit has been at the centre of a storm in recent days, with many in the country unhappy with a relatively minor detail of the design from manufacturers Nike.
The jersey itself, which is set to be worn at Euro 2024, is nothing out of the ordinary. It is a plain white kit with a blue trim, as we have come to expect from English kits down through the years.
However, one small aspect of the collar has caused a huge amount of debate. It involves the English flag, which Nike say has been given a 'playful update' that involves changing the traditional colours of the St George's cross.

This has not gone down well in some quarters.
The move has caused quite a bit of uproar in England, with Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer among those to condemn the change.

Peter Shilton makes error when discussing new England kit
Peter Shilton is someone that is always keen to add his name to any ongoing controversy surrounding the England team, with this being no exception.
He made an appearance on BBC radio to condemn the fact that Nike had changed the colours of the flag. The only issue was that he didn't seem to know the colour of the flag in the first place.

I don't agree with it.
I'm a traditionalist. England represents out country, red, white, and blue are the colours we have on our flag.
We have so many changes to kits these days in terms of design changes even, it makes fans by a fresh kit to be up to date. It's very expensive.
It's only slightly, but it's a colour difference. I think it's significant, because once you start trying to change colours, there is no end to it really.
That's what my point is, there's no need to change the colour of the flag. I just think maybe it's the start of introducing new colours to the strip.
If you ever wanted a summary of this controversy, this is perfect. A man who doesn't know the colours of the England flag complaining that they were changed on a football kit.
You wouldn't expect anything less from Peter Shilton.
