Peter Schmeichel may have been one of the greatest goalkeepers to play the game but as far as his punditry goes, there's a little bit left to be desired. Granted, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but we'd suggest quite a few would disagree with what Schmeichel has had to say about the style of football being played at Old Trafford, or at least the style that 'should' be played.
Louis van Gaal has come in for a lot of criticism over the past couple of weeks over Man United's failure to even look like they'd get on the scoresheet. Eventually that run ended with Wayne Rooney's strike against CSKA Moscow last night, but the criticism very much remains.
Schmeichel went along with that criticism but he offered a warning to fans who expected to see another manager come in and implement a change in fortunes. One dream manager in particular came to mind and Schmeichel was having none of the hype.
This is my biggest fear that someone like Pep Guardiola will become the next Manchester United manager.
Guardiola has a way of playing, he has a system and he sticks to that. He has changed Bayern Munich from what I thought was a fantastic treble-winning team under Jupp Heynckes.
[They played] quick football, through the middle, using the width of the pitch, but they were passing the ball and killing everyone they played against.
He started to make them pass the ball sideways and I don't think they are as exciting as what they were.
So Peter Schmeichel wouldn't want to see Pep Guardiola at Old Trafford because his football is too boring. Each to their own and all that but that's a bit insane considering the kind of football that's being seen at the moment.
