Heading into this afternoon's game between Morocco and Belgium, there was a lingering sense that we could be about to see a shock.
Underdogs have been the story of the 2022 FIFA World Cup up to this point, with a number of so called lesser sides upsetting the odds against their more fancied opponents.
Of course, the form of the teams involved also played a part. Morocco looked excellent in their draw with Croatia, and while Belgium did beat Canada in their first game, they were far from impressive in doing so.
As it turned out, the north African nation would be more than a match for their opponents. They would run out 2-0 winners on the day, a result they fully deserved.
Fans loved Peter Drury commentary in Morocco win
It was a huge occasion for football in Morocco. This tournament marked the sixth occasion that they had qualified for the World Cup finals, but they had won only two games up to this point. It is their first win in the tournament proper since 1998.
Considering the magnitude of the victory, it was brilliant to see it excellently commentated on by Peter Drury.
The Englishman is widely considered to be the best commentator around, expertly calling the biggest moments in games with to give a real sense of occasion.
This one was no different, with his response to Morocco's second goal a work of art.
“Drink it in Casablanca. Relish it in Rabat. This is your night.”

Drink it in Casablanca! Relish it Rabat! This is your night.
After the final whistle, he brilliantly summed things up once again.

They've just shaken the Atlas Mountains. The manic Moroccan fans will dance on and on.
Eyeball to eyeball with the second best international team on the planet and they won it fair and square.
Those who heard the commentary were full of praise for him.
“Drink it in Casablanca. Relish it in Rabat. This is your night.”
“Sing it from the top of the Atlas Mountains. All aboard the Marrakech Express.”

I love Peter Drury because he’ll give the same energy of commentary to every match and every team that has scored. Unlike some commentators who have clear favorites you can even hear the pain when their team loses.

Three things are certain in life, death, taxes and Peter Drury delivering gems:
“Drink it in Casablanca, relish it in Rabat. Belgium second in the world. Morocco twenty second. You look at them [Belgium] and wonder whether the golden generation has gone rusty” pic.twitter.com/EcZdJkMij4— Sultan Adam ™ 🇧🇷 (@AdamMaina_) November 27, 2022
Superb.
Here's hoping we get a few more moments such as this from Peter Drury as the tournament goes on.
