Alvaro Pereira took an awful blow to the head in a collision with Raheem Sterling's knee last night.

Pereira can then be seen arguing with the Uruguayan team doctors who clearly want him to be substituted off the pitch.

Pereira overruled the doctor and returned to play the rest of the match however there was an outcry on Twitter about Fifa and their concussion protocols.

The incident even got a mention in the RTÉ studio with Eamon Dunphy citing Pereira returning to the pitch as an example of Uruguay's Hunger and desire to win.

Pereira has apparently since apologised to the team doctor for overruling and playing on.

Pereira being knocked out and returning to the game was seen by hundreds of millions of people watching the England/Uruguay game and once again brought concussion protocols of worldwide sport sharply into the headlines.
