Another big game and yet another dressing down for Manchester United. It seems that every fixture against big club is followed by a comprehensive loss and more talks of crisis at Old Trafford, with yesterday's Manchester derby no exception.
Outside of the first 20 minutes or so, Pep Guardiola's side utterly dominated the game. The 4-1 scoreline in no way flattered the hosts and they likely could have had a few more had they really gone for it.
While Manchester City are a brilliant side, this performance did little to validate the work done by Ralf Rangnick since his appointment at United. The team have hardly improved under his tutelage and continue to be plagued by the same issues that ultimately cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job.
Paul Scholes certainly isn't convinced by the interim manager.
Speaking on Premier League Productions after yesterday's game, he tore into Ralf Rangnick and questioned what possessed the club to appoint him in the first place.
🗣️ "Not one shot in the second half, it's horrific!"
🗣️ "He's never been at a top club."
🗣️ "It doesn't feel right to me."

That's where the club are at the minute, what do we expect?
You've brought in an interim coach who hasn't coached an elite team. He hasn't coached a big team, he hasn't coached a football club like Manchester United. There is so much expected of Manchester United, no matter who you are playing against, it doesn't matter.
He has never been at a top club. He has coached a team for two years out of the last ten years. How have United behind the scenes come to the conclusion that this is going to be the right man for six or seven months? It baffles me.
You look at the players, the players look lost on the football pitch...
In that second half the players looked lost, they didn't have a clue what to do...
We're going through pain now, we're fifth in the Premier League. We're going through a lot of pain. We don't have a style of play, we don't know what we're going to do.
This manager came in with his 4-2-2-2 and it didn't work, it didn't last very long. We've gone back to a 4-4-2 today with Pogba and Fernandes (up front). For 20 minutes we thought it worked and looked alright, then they came out second half half and were lucky it wasn't five or six. Again the goalkeeper (saved them), he made five or six saves.
[Rangnick] spoke before the game saying that defensively since Ole has gone, he has shored things up. He hadn't, not in a millions years. He is kidding himself if he thinks that. The keeper has stopped them from getting batterings for a long time.
Ralf Rangnick has most recently managed at the likes of Schalke and RB Leipzig, spending the majority of his time working behind the scenes at the latter.
He is set to take up a similar role with Manchester United in the summer, although Micah Richards has suggested that his failings in recent months could already be eroding his authority at the club.
