You could hear the indignation in Paul Scholes' voice when he spoke about the misuse of pretty much everyone's time that was today's international at the Aviva.

The game ended 0-0 and Scholes really encapsulated how those in attendance and those watching at home felt about the game.

There was a real lack of quality. A waste of an afternoon, really.

Not content, Scholes thought his sentiment required reiterating.

It'll be totally different here on Friday night against Scotland when they need to win the game. This place will be bouncing, you would have thought.

Like I said, it was just an end of season waste of space.

He certainly sounds like a man who would've preferred to have spent the day changing the oil in his lawnmower.
