Man Utd exited the Champions League at the group stage following a manic game in Germany against Wolfsburg.
United, through Anthony Martial, took the lead early but their advantage was swiftly nullified. Brief shafts of light emerged for the club throughout the evening, including via the PSV and CSKA Moscow game, but those were quickly blocked.
On BT Sport after the game, Michael Owen tore in to Louis van Gaal (see video above), not just for Tuesday night, but for the last 18 months.
While Paul Scholes looked like a man shorn of any enthusiasm for his former club.

And as for Rio Ferdinand, he opined that having to play Thursday night football is an embarrassment for a club of Man Utd's history.
