Paul Scholes has admitted he is fearful of the future of Manchester United. The former England international said his former club might spiral into obscurity if they continue their current form.

After winning the league in 2012-2013, Man Utd went on to have one of their worst seasons in years. They missed out on Champions League football by finishing seventh in the league in 2013-14. To make matters worse, they are already on the back foot this season after suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Swansea City in their Premier League opener.

I am scared for United. Genuinely scared that they could go into the wilderness in the same way that Liverpool did in the 1990s.

Scholes' solution to the United's woes is simple; more players.

What do they need? Five proper players who can hit the ground running and turn round a situation that looks desperate.

United have already brought in Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and most recently Argentinian defender Marcos Rojo but Scholes thinks Louis Van Gaal still has work to do in the transfer market before they can reclaim their former glory.
