It was a friendly seemingly destined to be outshone by the hearty French tribute to the victims of the two recent terror attacks in England, but it inexplicably became a serious ball game.
10-man France saw England off 3-2, but it will likely be Gary Cahill who looks back in anger due to his humiliation at the feet of Paul Pogba.
The Manchester United midfielder was imperious throughout, even managing to garner praise from fans of other clubs during a sizzling display - funny one, that - and the 24-year-old rinsed Cahill with a wonderful right-to-left drag followed by a saucy nutmeg as he ghosted past the Chelsea centre-back.

United fans have, for the most part, defended the Frenchman's supposedly underwhelming displays this season, although most would maintain his arrival wasn't quite as anticlimactic as other fans would like to believe.
And it wasn't only United fans who enjoyed watching him send Cahill for chips.
Forget the transfer fee, forget the dabbing/haircuts or some of his quotes- IMO Pogba is a joy to watch and a sublime player period
