After a thrilling summer at the World Cup, the opening day of the Premier League season is upon us as Manchester United take on Leicester City in Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho is looking to bounce back after a disappointing transfer window that saw them fail to secure a much-desired centre-back on deadline day. Thus, the first Man United starting team of 2018/19 features a partnership of Eric Bailly and World Cup star Victor Lindelöf.
Speaking of the World Cup, Paul Pogba has returned to Manchester with a winners medal and has been rewarded for that as he was named captain. Man United's starting team in full is De Gea; Shaw, Lindelof, Bailly, Darmian; Pogba (Captain), Pereira, Fred; Sanchez, Mata, Rashford. Speaking on Sky Sports, Mourinho confirmed Pogba was appointed captain in the absence of Antonio Valencia because he 'understands the culture of the club.' He also cited his willingness to return and help out immediately after the World Cup.
