Paul Pogba courted the scorn of Gary Neville and innumerable others over an Instagram post that surfaced on his account soon after Jose Mourinho had been sacked by Manchester United.
After the news of Jose's firing had been loosed on the world, a photo appeared of a smirking Pogba asking fans to "caption this", along with a bit of Adidas branding. It was deleted shortly after being posted.
Given that Mourinho had reportedly called Pogba a "virus", and then sidelined and scapegoated him in a last-ditch bid to get United fans on side, many assumed this was a smug 'fuck you' from Pogba to his now former manager. Neville tweeted "you can do one as well".
As it transpires, the Pogba post wasn't a dig at Mourinho - it was a scheduled post from Adidas that arrive at an unfortunate time.
Adidas confirmed that it was a commercial post, and the dodgy timing led to its removal.
Paul Pogba's social media posts were a scheduled event, part of a marketing campaign. Immediately taken down once it became apparent that it could be misconstrued as disrespectful to Manchester United and José Mourinho.
