'Tis the season and all that, and among the surest signs that the Premier League is back is the fact that Paul Merson is back spouting nonsense.
Merson has graded each Premier League club's transfer window performance on the Sky Sports website. The results range from an A+ for Liverpool to an EXPELLED for Tottenham.
As to the credibility of these opinions...we'll let you decide. We will, however, give this little bit of information for you to help make your call.
The important line in there relates to his belief that Nordin Amrabat was "one of their best players last season, I thought he played well a lot of the time". Amrabat spent last season on loan at Leganes in Spain.
Elsewhere, Merson believes that Watford will be in a relegation battle this season, which is probably a fair assessment. He also explained why Tottenham's lack of transfer business is a bad sign:
Tottenham are expelled. There's no one. There's a saying 'keep doing what you're doing and you'll get the same results' so that means they'll come third or fourth at best. Their best XI when they get them out is a very good team, but it is getting them out week in, week out. They've just moved into that new stadium and they need to stay in the top four, that's their fault. It's a shame because two years ago, they were trying to win the league and now, they're looking at top four football.
Jack Grealish is a decent player, but he isn't going to win you the league. It's one of them, he's a young player, he's English so let's bring him in, but he's not going to play so, for me, they're right to stick their heels in saying 'we rate him at this much' but he won't be a loss to Tottenham.
