Paul McShane has been one of the best-performing Irish players in the Championship this season: the captain of Reading and a mainstay at centre-back. Even his selection is a compliment: his manager knows a thing or two about playing at centre-back too.
His fine form this season notwithstanding, Jaap Stam will be furious with McShane this evening, as he was sent-off for a straight red card for this reckless lunge. It's a horror tackle, and absolutely the right decision by the referee.

It marred what had been a good performance by McShane: he had set up the opening goal, and will now miss the return leg through suspension.
Reading did cling on to the 1-1 draw, which will be of some relief to McShane.
