Villa manager Paul Lambert seems to be in denial over Roy Keane vowing to leave the club if it begins affecting his job with the Ireland squad. Lambert stated that the comment made directly by the former Man Utd and Ireland captain had been highly exaggerated and he has no worries over potentially losing his second in command.
I think that’s been blown well out of proportion. I don’t see Ireland losing three games anyway, so I don’t think I need to worry about that.
As I said, Ireland have just taken a point from the world champions so I don’t see them losing three in a row anyway.
Keane made the comment at the launch of his second autobiography 'The Second Half' in Dublin last week. The Corkonian also claimed to have spoken to Lambert about his plans to leave if the proverbial hits the fan with his national side.
It felt like a full-time job but having been in the Ireland job, I felt I could manage to do both. And now I still have my days when I feel that if in the next few months I am taking my eye off the ball then I will leave Aston Villa. I've told the FAI that, I've told Paul Lambert that and Martin knows.
At the moment, it's OK. (But) if we lost three or four on the spin and Martin's going, 'Roy'...
I don't know, it sounds like a pretty genuine promise to me, Paul.
