As far as the rest of us are concerned, Damien Duff is already a Shamrock Rovers player. Not only that but, because he's sound, he's giving whatever wages he does get straight to charity. As if we needed anymore reason to love the Duffer.
However, according to Pat Fenlon, news of Duff's signature on the dotted line have been greatly exaggerated. The Rovers boss was on Off The Ball last night to speak about his side's 3-0 win over Progrès Niederkorn on Tuesday and obviously enough the subject of Duff was touched upon.
Fenlon did confirm that the club were in talks with the former Ireland winger but he made sure everyone knew it was not a done deal just yet.
We spoke to Damien and we had a good chat with him and we sort of parked it because he was doing his coaching badges and we were involved in a European game.
Obviously, we've progressed in that as well so I'm sure we will speak again over the next few days. So we'll see where it gets but I've said it before, I think any club would be mad if they didn't want Damien Duff in their squad and that's something we would be interested in.
Judging by that, the deal is obviously well down the tracks but it seems there's still quite a bit more to sort out before Rovers fans can start shelling out for their 'Duff' shirts just yet.
