There are few things more exciting on this planet than the shenanigans that go on in South American football and Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras proved it this weekend when they rented out a massive billboard in New York's iconic Times Square to take a swipe at their club president.
Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras is one of Brazil's biggest football clubs with the Sao Paolo-based team boasting over 185 000 affiliated members. Palmeiras are currently joint second in the top flight of Brazilian football, however, after seventeen games they sit 12 points behind the leader with a league win all but out of the question.
Despite the club sitting in second, its members appear to be less than pleased with the club president following their performance - or lack thereof - in the transfer market. While club presidents and owners are well used to dissatisfaction on this side of the Atlantic, we're not so sure how they'd cope with the Palmeiras fans protests.

Palmeiras Fans Rent Billboard in Times Square
With the club president supposedly holidaying in New York, a group of the clubs affiliated members rented a billboard in Times Square calling on the club's president to announce transfers.
The ad which lasts for about thirty seconds calls out the president asking where the club's new transfers are before urging him to keep both his word and his promises with videos of the fans appearing throughout.

While we've seen plenty of protests near these shores, from Airplane banners to the GlazersOut saga, and thousands of tennis balls on the pitch in the Aviva, this is up there as one of the most iconic from the Palmeiras fans.
While football is now more than ever an always-changing landscape, one thing will never change - South American football fans always give us something extra.
