Ovie Ejaria has returned to Liverpool, after cutting short his loan spell at Rangers. It had been rumoured that the player was unhappy, having failed to settle in Scotland.

The midfielder had made 28 appearances for Rangers this season, including 11 outings in the Europa League. He also scored twice. Despite becoming a regular contributor in the team, rumours had started that he was unhappy with life off the pitch.

Manager Steven Gerrard was recently asked about the possibility of the player returning to Merseyside in January, and he seemed uncertain how the situation would play out (per The Express).

Sitting here right now, that’s a concern. I need to have an honest conversation with Ovie and see where his head’s at and where he sees his future.

I also plan to speak to Liverpool and we’ll see where those conversations go. The reality is he’s a Liverpool player and they have almost got to take charge of this...

He’s a young kid, he’s living away from his family. There might be other stuff going on in his life that I’m not aware of yet.

Yes, we’ve got a loan situation with Ovie but we wouldn’t keep a kid who was unhappy.

It seems as though the player's issues could not be resolved, and Rangers have now confirmed that the player has returned to his parent club.

This will be unwelcome news for the Scottish club, who also crashed out of the Europa League earlier this week.

The signing of Ejaria was seen as a statement of intent by Rangers, with Gerrard using his Liverpool connections to bring the highly-touted youngster on board. Ryan Kent was also brought in on loan from Anfield, while Jon Flanagan arrived on a free transfer.

For Ejaria, another loan spell in January is most likely on the horizon.
