Former PSG and AC Milan forward Jeremy Menez made his debut for Bordeaux in a friendly against Lorient on Wednesday night, but it was a night to remember for all the wrong reasons.
Injuries in pre-season friendlies are not uncommon, but losing an ear on a football pitch certainly is, and sadly that is exactly what happened for Menez who joins Evander Holyfield and Mick Foley on the list of sportsmen to lose an ear while doing their job.
After a clash with a Lorient player, studs came down on the side of Menez's head and it quickly became clear that most of his ear was missing. Bordeaux have since released a statement confirming that his ear was cut off.
Jeremy Menez had an ear cut off during the encounter against Lorient, which led to his premature exit in the 77th minute.”
The medical staff will take a surgical opinion on whether to operate on the new Bordeaux player.
Images of the incident quickly found their way to social media, and they are not for the feint hearted.

OUCH!
That looks seriously nasty, and Menez will now need surgery to salvage as much of his ear as he can.
It's such an unfortunate thing to happen, and on your debut as well... You have to feel for Jeremy Menez.
