Martin O'Neill has sent a warning to his Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane that he will not be allowed to job-share should he take up any of the managerial positions he continues to be linked to.
Keane is rumoured to be a candidate to replace Steve Bruce as Hull City boss, amid previous links to Celtic and other jobs. O'Neill says that he remains lukewarm about the prospect of Keane becoming an assistant manager elsewhere while he kept the Ireland gig - but that he wouldn't allow Keane to job-share if he got a managerial post.
If you’re going into to manage at club level, that’s your job.
ou couldn’t do the two. Roy can answer for himself but I think he would feel that way too. With his experience of Villa in mind, if an assistant manager’s job position occurred again, he would maybe have second thoughts about it.
O'Neill does think that Keane moving on is inevitable, and he welcomes the rumours - because it means that he's doing a good job:
In one aspect, I’m quite pleased that Roy’s name is being mentioned again. It feels like he’s really contributing. I would really be disappointed if he left but I don’t want to hold anybody.
The duo are expected to finally put pen to paper on their contract extensions until the World Cup in Russia soon.
