The ceremony for the switching on of the Christmas lights in Cootehill in Cavan was a memorable and illustrious affair. The Chamber of Commerce sadly couldn't make it, nor could the local Mayor, nor could the obligatory 'celebrity' who they were due to bring down (she used to be in Hollyoaks, no doubt.)
However, they did one better and got a local hero to do the necessary in the early hours last weekend. Darren Fannin, on the back of scoring a hat-trick (presumably for Cootehill Celtic) was bestowed with the honour, or bestowed himself with the honour, of turning on the spectacular Christmas lights of Cootehill. One lesson of this video is that scoring a hat-trick obviously makes you feel like some sort of deity, as evidenced by Darren's sonorous chant of "Let there be light."
