No country does self-flagellation with quite the same iconoclastic ferocity as the French.
Emmanuel Petit has launched a staggering attack on his own people over their treatment of Thierry Henry. In an interview with 'Sport. fr', Petit described the French as an 'arrogant, lying and hypocritical' people and said he sometimes thought it would have been better if the Germans had overrun France during the Second World War.
Petit complained that Henry 'got screwed' by the French after his handball against Ireland.
Why do people not like Thierry Henry in France. In England, he has a statue. He is revered there. What do we blame Henry for? His handball against Ireland? He helped France qualify for the World Cup in South Africa! He did nothing wrong. France is hypocritical and cowardly. Sometimes I think if it had been overrun by the Germans it would be better run today.
He compared Henry's treatment in England to that he received in France.
He was an analyst for the World Cup on the BBC, which he enjoyed because he loves football... In France, he has had communication with the press, so what? Perhaps because he was not smiling when he scored for les Blues? Well, that's what I hate in this country. I have never seen such arrogant, lying and hypocritical people.
Makes Stephen Ireland sound like Padraig Pearse.
