Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened the door to a sensational return to the club, if Erik ten Hag was sacked.

The Dutchman has got off to a poor start this season, and has to endure some difficult defeats including a 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool.

Even the likes of Bruno Fernandes who has been their most consistent player for years, is struggling for form, and a midweek draw to FC Twente in the Europa League has only compounded matters.

There was huge speculation last year that ten Hag would be leaving, but winning the FA Cup against Man City in surprise circumstances seemed to save his job, but there are those who feel like he is on borrowed time.

If United don't show some signs of improvement soon, then the former Ajax manager might be sent packing, and a certain ex Red Devil, would be more than willing to step in.

Speaking at a Q&A at the Oslo Business Forum, Solskjaer was pretty clear with his answer when asked if he would consider a return to United if the job became available again.

"If the family [United] asks, I would say yes every day of the week.

"It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have now, but I would say yes, of course."

As well as United, Solskjaer also has his eye on the Norway manager's job, with coach Stale Solbakken expected to step down at the end of the country's 2026 World Cup campaign.

"I am a proud Norwegian, and of course if the question arises, when Ståle decides to give up, I will happily engage in discussions.

"I am a proud Norwegian and proud of where I come from."

Solskjaer hasn't been involved in management since he was sacked by United in November 2021, following three years in the hot seat.

The Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho, initially as interim manager, and guided the club on an incredible run of wins that landed him the job on a permanent basis.

However, zero trophies and controversial signings sent the team in a downward spiral and even his legendary status as a former play couldn't protect him from the owner's wrath.
