The Ched Evans business took a turn for the farcical today as Oldham Athletic have claimed that the decision not to go ahead with the deal was largely down to a threat of rape that was made against a relative of a staff member of the club.

In the last while, Evans released a statement condemning those who have abused his victim online. He apologised to people affected by what happened 'that night in Rhyl, not least the woman concerned.'
