Oh, Turkish Football

On Monday evening, the Turkish Super Cup was an Istanbul Derby clash between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. A shootout was needed to separate the sides and it featured a bizarre moment between Gala’s Felipe Melo and Fenerbahce ‘keeper Volkan Demirel.

Melo, never the most popular character, took a pretty terrible spot kick, which led Volkan to, well, jump on him and generally get in his face until the referee could separate the pair.

Yes, there was most likely a provoking factor behind Volkan’s leaps, but what’s most surprising is that both players were cautioned for the altercation, which seems a bit unfair considering Volkan's standing-start Schumacher lunge.
