A 6 year old boy has won St. Mirren's Player of the Year award in recognition of his ongoing battle against cancer. Aaron Woodall, who plays in the club's academy, is currently undergoing chemotherapy having previously undergone radiotherapy and an operation on his brain to remove a tumour.
He is clearly not one to let his illness slow him down; mere hours after being released from hospital after his operation in December he was serving as the club's mascot in the club's match against Motherwell.
Around 500 people voted on the poll on blackandwhitearmy.com, a St Mirren FC fan-site. A statement on the site shows just how much a football club can come together for something like this.
Aaron's strength and courage has been an inspiration to all of us, and a timely reminder of things around us that are much more important than football.
We will be in touch with the club shortly to arrange to hand over our coveted trophy to this fine young man, who will also receive a framed St Mirren shirt, signed by the League Cup winning team of 2013 as part of his award.
A great gesture from the fans and something that is sure to give young Aaron a huge lift.
