"No Respect"- Arsenal Fan TV Host Responds To Gary Neville's Jibe

The Gary Neville vs Arsenal Fan TV feud kicked up a notch on Monday.

After Neville took a pop at the highly popular YouTube channel that broadcasts the immediate reaction of Arsenal fans from outside the stadium on Sky Sports, he then took a few more shots on twitter and even suggested that he'd be happy to go on their show and explain his comments, where he called the reaction to Arsene Wenger embarrassing.

But was he being fair?

Hundreds of thousands tuned into Arsenal Fan TV after the Chelsea loss, something that has become a regular occurrence after Arsenal lose, many of them are doing so to laugh at the Arsenal fans that have thrown their toys out of the pram.

That's why Neville thinks it is embarrassing, but these are genuine fans. These are the guys that are at the match, home or away. Those are their real feelings, their immediate reaction after a result, so should they not be entitled to voice their opinion?

That is what Robbie from Arsenal Fan TV, the guy who holds the microphone and often asks the angry fans to reconsider their extreme views, was arguing as he discussed the whole Neville situation in a discussion with YouTube channel Ball Street:

Gary Neville has a right to his opinion, we hear his opinion all the time and we respect his opinion, but does he respect the opinion of the fans?

It's just, for me, indicative of how a lot of the sort of establishment look at fans. We're just treated as second class citizens.

If there's no fans at football it's a dead game. And still, we get treated the worst. There's never any respect, I mean, the whole reason why I started Arsenal Fan TV in the first place was exactly because of the things that Gary Neville said. I wanted to give ordinary fans a voice, because we never, ever used to hear from them. Never. But we're hearing from them now.

This is not the first time a Neville has been criticised for being condescending towards anyone who threatens to challenge the views of those in the seemingly elite group of pundits.

Both Gary and Phil were slammed for the way in which they shot down the views of Loris Karius, in a fantastic piece by Marina Hyde for The Guardian back in December.

As someone who has never played the game of football to the highest level, I wonder if I dare even giggle at Gary Neville? The hierarchies of English football and the various industries that surround it – including Her Majesty’s sports press – frequently remind me of some failing post-war minor British public school, where bumptious members of the Remove are always being slapped down by the bigger boys, for reasons as bygone as the empire. Pointless rules, desiccated conventions, rigid systems of deference – what is any of it for, except propping up the establishment for the same reason establishments always demand propping up?

There is no questioning that Gary Neville is one of the very best pundits around, and nobody is questioning that, but it does seem apparent that his dismissal of those who have not been involved in the game giving their views is something that bothers many.

He is allowed to feel that Arsenal fans screaming 'Wenger out' is embarrassing, but it did seem a bit harsh to publicly hit out at Arsenal Fan TV for airing those views.
