Andy Keogh has been revealed in the Sunday Times today as the latest person to try and coax Stephen Ireland out of international retirement. The Cardiff city winger is believed to have asked Ireland to join up with the national side for this campaign in recent weeks.

Stephen takes up the story

'I won't play for Ireland ever again. I actually spoke to Andy Keogh about this yesterday. He's just had a child, we've been texting and he was saying "please come back for this campaign," but it's not going to happen.

'I'm just so happy not playing international football. I haven't missed it. Not one bit. The international matches come and I get to spend more time with my children.'

That's Dad of the year territory right there, his kids will be so proud when he tells them of his sacrifices.

Meanwhile, Ireland sat on the bench for 90mins as his career at Aston Villa starts to blossom, even Heskey started.
