Nigel Pearson may be a wilfully eccentric person but he appears to be a pretty decent football manager. After the ostrich-gate press conference of Tuesday, the apology and the press corps retaliation the next day, Pearson had become a whipping boy online and many neutrals, not previously offended by dear old Leicester City in any respect, were vocal in their desire that the club get relegated.
Then, there was the crushing 3-0 win over Newcastle, their fifth win in six games and a scoreline which, if anything, flattered Newcastle rather than Pearson's team. Pearson has been lauded to for deflecting attention and pressure away from his players with his antics.
Now, it turns out his dietary measures are having the right effect.
There’s been a bit of banter. We had been having ostrich burgers at the training ground.
You have to be able to laugh at yourself and allow other people to do that. So there you go. What happened, happened. What makes it easier is getting the result.
Leicester City, dead and buried a while ago, are now out of the relegation zone and one point behind Newcastle.
