During the week, LA Galaxy announced the signings of both Ashley Cole and Belgian international defender Jelle van Damme.
Today comes news that Robbie Keane's side are close to the signing of another high profile player - Dutch international Nigel De Jong.
De Jong will reportedly join on a one-year deal and receive less than $1 million in remuneration for the season. However, Steven Gerrard's contract is up at the end of the season, following which he will very likely leave the club. This would leave a designated player spot, and so a very lucrative contract, open for the midfielder.
The player, currently with AC Milan, signed a contract extension running to 2018 just last year.

Galaxy were eliminated from the MLS playoffs in the first round in 2015.
This season, they have a formidable looking squad which features Keane, Gerrard, Cole, Van Damme, Giovani dos Santos and more than likely De Jong.
