Say what you want about them but when Man City need to strengthen, they strengthen regardless of the price. He was the man that Man United fans wanted for much of the summer but now their nearest rivals have swooped to sign Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia in a £32 million deal.

There had been suggestions that Eliaquim Mangala would be sent to the La Liga side on loan as part of the deal but that is not the case and it appears that Manuel Pellegrini will use Otamendi to try and aid Mangala's development after the pair formed an effective partnership at Porto before they went their separate ways last summer.
