James McClean has donated €1,200 to the family of two-year-old Ronan McGavigan, who was tragically killed on Sunday when he was hit by a car having chased a football onto the road.

The family live close to the Brandywell - home of McClean's former club Derry City - and it was here that the tragic incident occurred. A fundraising drive was raised by friends of the family to help them pay for the funeral, with the target €1,200. McClean and his wife paid the entire amount themselves. Further donations have taken the total raised to over €3,500.

While McClean divides opinion among many, he has made many fine gestures locally. He has in the past donated a bespoke trike to help a local disabled girl, Kaylee and earlier this year made a donation to help pay for the cancer treatment of four-year-old Daragh McCleary from Derry.

Daragh's mother responded by saying that "James is an absolute gentleman and I will be forever grateful to him and everybody else that has helped us along the way".
