Niall Quinn is uneasy about the manner in which Mark Noble has gone about deciding which international team he wishes to play for. Liam George described the farrago as a 'disgrace' and Quinn also has misgivings about the way the issue has played out in the media. Naturally, he is not against English born players lining out for Ireland, having played with so many down the years, but he believed that players must show a willingness to play for the country for the right reasons.
I go back to when Davy Langan was running our dressing room and any of the English born players who came in had to get by Davy to get in and of course they bought into it. And you're not asking them to be Irish, Irish, Irish, you're asking to be part of the group for the right reason and believe in the jersey... And you don't come with ideas that I wasn't good enough to go with that team but I'm better than you lot. That won't sit well.
He sounded vaguely sceptical when asked whether Noble would greatly improve the side and was also concerned about whether his arrival would retard the development of existing midfielders like Hoolahan and Gibson.
I think I'd be happy with the guys who are thrilled to be here. Like Wes is. It came late for Wes but you can see what it means to him. And Darron after his injury as well. They wont want to be pushed aside by a half hearted approach from somebody.
