When it was discovered that Neymar Jr had opted to undergo a surgical procedure on an injury sustained during a league game for PSG, the implications were clear to see.
An injury that the Brazilian could theoretically have played through, with PSG facing into a decisive Champions League tie against Real Madrid, Neymar Jr's decision rendered him incapable of featuring in the club's biggest game since his record-breaking move there the summer before.
Opting for the surgery on the basis that it would allow him to partake in Brazil's World Cup campaign without hindrance, reports in Spain's Sport are now suggesting that the Brazilian will not play for PSG again.
With rumours continually circulating that the move to PSG was simply a conduit through which Neymar Jr could transfer from Barcelona to Real Madrid without the immediate issue of completing such a transfer directly, Sport have outlined their understanding of Neymar Jr's outlook:
According to ABC, the Brazil international has taken the decision to never play for PSG again.
"I won't go back to PSG, [the decision] is irreversible," he's said to his family and friends. Neymar Sr. has the job of using these three months while his son is injured to negotiate with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez.
Having left Paris shortly after sustaining the injury, Neymar Jr took himself back to Brazil with immediate effect.
Joining PSG had appeared to be a method by which the Brazilian could shine a little brighter than he had at Barcelona under the influence of Lionel Messi.
Reportedly desperate to claim a Ballon D'Or of his own, it is reported that Neymar Jr is deeply unhappy with the manner he has been treated by the club's Parisian fan-base:
If I come here, a league without tradition, and they whistle me, I don't want to continue for one minute more.
While the rumours surrounding a player of his standing will continually spiral, given the amount of highly publicised rifts Neymar Jr has already been involved in at the club, it is not inconceivable that he will try to force a move back to Spain sooner rather than later.
