Leading Brazilian newspaper O Globo has reported Neymar has signed an agreement to join Barcelona from Santos after the Confederations Cup in June.
According the paper, the transfer of the Brazilian wunderkind will be rubber-stamped today after a meeting between Santos and Barcelona officials.
There does seem to be more to this than your standard football transfer gossip with Odillio Rodrigues, Santos’ Vice President, telling the paper: “We wanted Neymar to stay at Santos until the 2014 World Cup, but football is a business where market law prevails.”
Neymar only has one year left on his contract with Santos so if he chose not to sign a new deal, the club would be faced with the prospect of losing him on a free transfer.
