Mike Ashley just seems unwilling or unable to keep out of the headlines, though his new plan might just do that to Newcastle in the long term.
The club want newspapers to pay for access to players.
From Chroniclelive.co.uk:
They have told reporters from national titles who are working in the North East that they will no longer be given access to their players between matches this season and will instead give those “privileges” to organisations that pay them.
At least one title has already turned down the 'opportunity' to purchase packages which would grant them varying levels of access to the players.
The club have rather optimistically graded the packages as bronze, silver and gold with the level of payment determining the level of access.
Newcastle are the first Premier League club to try out something like this and it shouldn't take long for them to realise that there's damn good reason for that.
