Newcastle were unlucky to fall behind in Tuesday night's massive Championship fixture between Brighton & Hove Albion after Ciaran Clark was harshly punished for a tussle with Glenn Murray that saw a penalty awarded and converted.
Rafa Benitez's men huffed and puffed, but with time running out in the second half it seemed as though luck was not on their side and Brighton could pull four points clear of their nearest rivals.
But in the end it was Newcastle who claimed all three points as Ayoze Perez netted the winner in the 89th minute, but they were given the chance to go and chase the win after pulling level thanks to a freak goal.
Momo Diame will claim it, but in reality the ball struck him after a wayward shot and looped over the Brighton defence.
Wat een bizarre goal van Mo Diame, waarmee hij de stand op 1-1 brengt. Bedoeld? pic.twitter.com/pwTItp1dCV

Nobody could quite grasp what had happened until the replays revealed all.
Absolute madness.
Diame stopped in the hopes of redirecting the ball towards goal, but surely even he didn't hope for something that fortunate to happen.
Ayoze Perez would then score a far more believable goal to win it for the Toon late on. That win lifts Newcastle into first place, two points clear of Brighton.
