New York City Fans Marked Frank Lampard's Debut With A Truly Sublime Banner

As much as the old-school footballing world wants to see a thriving MLS, it's fair to say there's been quite a bit of patronising behaviour from this area of the globe in recent months. What with the MLS' seemingly constant 'expansion franchises' it can be difficult for many to marry the American vernacular with the tried and tested game that we know and love.

Take for example, New York City FC. A club that was effectively conceived by another club for the purpose of who knows what. It's difficult to see how there could be any real affinity between club and fanbase in such a situation. However, for the MLS to grow and take hold that's what has to happen.

Before the start of the season, you may remember a song sheet devised by NYCFC fans did the rounds on social media and like many, we had a good old laugh about it. However, traditions have to come from somewhere so we really should be giving these new teams a break rather than castigating them for their actions.

In that spirit, we'd like to give NYCFC fans a hearty round of applause for this banner that greeted Frank Lampard on MLS debut on Saturday night. Perhaps they should just employ Brick Tamland to write their songs as well.
