Spanish club Rayo Vallecano wanted their away jersey to do something more than provide a fall-back when the home team boasted the same colours as them.
They wanted to make a political statement with their away jersey.
And so they have.
Their away jersey for the coming season pays tribute to society's unsung heroes. And by unsung heroes, they don't mean Rayo Vallecano players. Or left backs.
The jersey has a rainbow strip that runs diagonally across the jersey.
The colours represent:
Red: The fight against cancer
Orange: The fight for people with disabilities
Yellow: The battle against depression
Green: The battle for the environment
Blue: The fight against child abuse
Pink: The fight against domestic violence.
All colours: The rainbow effect symbolises the fight for gay equality.
And before one suspects cynicism, the club are backing their sentiment up with money. €7 of every shirt sale will go to charities representing the seven causes.
