Commentator Gus Johnson made his first foray into the sport of soccer on Fox this evening for the Real Madrid vs Man Utd game. He's mostly known in the US for his 'March Madness' college basketball commentary but Fox have decided to to expand his range of sports in preparation for the 2018 World Cup, which Fox has the rights to in the US.
What he might lack in knowledge of players and the more intricate rules of the game he certainly makes up for with enthusiasm. It's like listening to a slightly toned down Timmy McCarthy, except you wouldn't mind listening to him more than just for a few weeks every four years.
Fox have really bought into Gus Johnson as the man who could springboard their soccer coverage towards bigger and better things. As you can see from the picture below, the Real Madrid vs Man Utd was not highlighted for featuring Cristiano Ronaldo or Robin van Persie. No, instead the game featured Gus Johnson.
