It is the mark of an influential player that one is despised by the supporters of an opposing team. There must be no more validating sound than that of opposing fans booing you relentlessly.

Tensions were running high yesterday, and those around the New England area vented their spleen towards LA Galaxy's marquee man. Given that their attempt at revolution turned out to be more Russell Brand than Che Guevara last night, the mood turned quite sour. Boston has never turned against an Irishman as quick.

We hear a lot about how Robbie is loved and respected by the followers of the MLS. But frankly, all those reports detailing a ceaseless love-in just make the League seem small-time. We know that's not how people react to match-winning players in England.
