Chelsea Could Be Playing Their Home Games In Twickenham Soon Enough

Chelsea's plans to get on an evening footing with some of European football's big earners could see them forced out of their Stamford Bridge home for up to three years.

Despite Roman Abramovich's bankrolling of the London club, Chelsea are constantly losing out to their rivals when it comes to matchday revenue. Old Trafford is almost double the capacity of Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are losing out big time when it comes to how much money they can take in on a matchday.

The solution to that had been a new stadium with sites such as Battersea Power Station being explored. However, now it seems that the most likely outcome will be an expansion to Stamford Bridge. An increased capacity of 60,000 is being planned with one idea being that Chelsea could dig below ground level to accommodate the expansion.

One way or another, it will mean Chelsea's plans are going to have to change. If they want to get the work done as quickly as possible, the most logical solution would be to move into another stadium temporarily. Wembley is one option but talks have already taken place with the RFU about a move to Twickenham.

While there's no definitive plan at the moment, there has been an informal timeframe of 10 years put on the project of completing a redeveloped Stamford Bridge.
