Legendary Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is the latest sporting icon to be the subject of a documentary, with Amazon announcing their latest film Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In.
The film will release on Amazon Prime Video on May 29th, with a cinema release two days earlier. It was described by Amazon in their announcement tweet as a “definitive portrait” of Ferguson’s football career.

After a playing career that included a successful spell at Rangers, Ferguson made his name as manager of Manchester United. Appointed in 1986 after a trophy-laden period in charge of Aberdeen, Ferguson led United to 13 Premier League titles during his time in Manchester – as well as the 1999 and 2008 Champions League crowns.
Since retiring in 2013, Ferguson has remained as an ambassador at Man United and is regularly seen on matchdays at Old Trafford. In May 2018, he suffered a brain haemorrhage and was placed in intensive care for four days, before making a full recovery.
Ferguson said that the fear of losing his memory in the aftermath of the haemorrhage was what motivated him to make the documentary – and he made sure to get his son, Jason, onboard to direct it.
“Losing my memory was my biggest fear when I suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2018. In the making of this film I was able to revisit the most important moments of my life, good and bad. Having my son Jason direct this film has ensured an honest and intimate account.”
The film will make extensive use of archive footage and feature contributions from some of the most iconic players from Ferguson’s time in charge of United, including Ryan Giggs and Eric Cantona.
The crew for the film includes Andrew MacDonald (Trainspotting), John Battseck (One Day in September) and Allon Reich (The Last King of Scotland).
Amazon have a great track record with documentaries and it looks like they’re on to another winner here – we certainly can’t wait until May 29.
