The early 1990s were definitely Niall Quinn's peak time as a striker. He was averaging around 15 goals a season for Man City and hitting vital goals for the Republic of Ireland. And the endorsements - well, they flowed in.
Lucozade Sport came knocking in the summer of 1992 and Quinny sells the product with the kind of conviction no footballer has managed before or since.
We note with regret that the practice of sportsmen thrusting the product out in front of them, essentially beckoning the cameraman to zoom in, while obligatory in 1992, is now seen as unsubtle and passe by today's ad makers.
With both Lansdowne Road and Tolka Park (we're fairly certain) as a backdrop, Quinn bangs in the kind of goal he wasn't renowned for scoring - a low drive after a neat through ball.
As a production, sadly, it does not rival the finest Irish soccer related ad of all time (we speak, of course, about Jason McAteer's pre-World Cup dream from 2002).
Cheers to the great Killianm2 who is currently uploading the entirety of his 1992 collection onto youtube.
