Former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has claimed that Roy Keane needs to understand the game has changed since his playing career.
The Serbian made a huge impact during his time in the Premier League, acting as a vital member of Chelsea’s Premier League winning sides in 2015 and 2017, while also an important part of Manchester United’s squad until his departure this summer.
After over a decade in the English top flight, Matic was one of several players to leave Old Trafford this summer, joining Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

It is the third time that Matic has joined a Mourinho side, with the 'special one' clearly having an admiration for the experienced defensive midfielder.
With the player now in Italy, he seems to be enjoying being away from the Premier League bubble. That includes when it comes to criticism from pundits.
Nemanja Matic criticises Roy Keane's understanding of modern game
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Nemanja Matic took aim on Roy Keane’s comments made towards him towards the end of last season.
I have respect for what he has done but he needs to understand that football has changed. If I played for Chelsea, I cannot say I hate them. I cannot be angry when I’m talking to the press after the game.
The way he behaved on the pitch, 70 percent of it is a red card today. You cannot throw a punch when all the cameras in the world are there.
The real hero is when you go out on the street and say something, but he has always very nice with me, so what he says in public to be honest, I don’t really care.
I know what I’ve done in my career and I’m very happy.
Nemanja Matic’s reference is to Keane’s comments in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea in April. The no-nonsense pundit was unimpressed with Matic thanking both Manchester United and Chelsea.
"Man Utd will stay forever in my hearts." ❤️
"I'm sure better times will come." 🤞

Matic talking about I’m leaving, I’ve had a great time, Man United will always be in my heart, oh and Chelsea by the way, oh and Benfica don’t forget them, they all can’t be in your heart.
Nemanja Matic signed for Manchester United at a time when the club were hoping top reestablish themselves among the elite of English football, although the reality was different.
By last season, it was clear he was no longer a fit with the direction they were travelling in.
A move away certainly seemed to suit all parties involved.
