In today's Indepdendent on Sunday, Irish journalist Miguel Delaney tells of a 'six-page love letter' which Jose Mourinho apparently sent to Manchester United detailing his pitch for the Old Trafford job.
Given the poor football and results being produced by Man Utd right now, Louis van Gaal is unlikely to remain in charge beyond the end of this season.
The letter reportedly featured assurance from Mourinho that he would adapt to the principles of Man Utd; that being attacking football rather over the counter-attacking variety which has been the trademark of his success.
Writing on gestifute.com, Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes has refuted the report, labeling it 'absurd'
It does not occur to anyone that a coach like Jose Mourinho can write letters to clubs offering their services.
It is absolutely ridiculous and totally absurd.
Of course, it's unlikely that Mourinho, or anyone associated with him, would acknowledge such an obsequious move.
According to The Guardian's Sid Lowe, such an act from Mourinho would fit his modus operandi.
