Republic of Ireland winger James McClean scored a thumping header to draw West Brom level with Spurs on Saturday evening, eventually earning his side a point in a hard fought game, and was then the subject of the MOTD spotlight in the post-match analysis.

It wasn't all positive for McClean, however, as while he was praised for his goal, he was also criticised for a hard challenge on Tottenham's Mousa Dembele.

It was a classic James McClean challenge, as when the Derry man commits himself to a tackle, he REALLY commits himself, and while that is one thing that football fans love to see from their players, the MOTD panel suggested that he went in too forcefully, and should have been sent off.

McClean looked totally bemused to be booked at the time, mainly due to the ref initially allowing play on before changing his mind and calling it back, but we've seen players sent off for less.

It's very encouraging for Irish fans to see McClean starting, and playing well in the Premier League, so we would hate to see a suspension put his starting place in jeopardy. Hopefully he keeps up his good form, and keeps himself out of the referee's notebook going forward.
