Mo Salah's future at Liverpool remains uncertain, as the Egyptian continues his relentless form for the Premier League leaders.
There is plenty of competition, but remarkably, this is well on course to be Salah's finest season in the red of Liverpool. He leads the league in both goals and assists.
Despite his 31 goal contributions, there is little clarity on whether Salah will remain a Liverpool player beyond the end of the season, with his contract set to expire in June. Ahead of Sunday's thriller against Manchester United, Salah reiterated his public stance that this will be his final year with the club, after eight years on Merseyside.
He is one of the core trio of Liverpool stars whose futures are up in the air, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold both set to leave in the summer as it stands. Alexander-Arnold has faced particular criticism from fans in recent weeks as he flirts with a summer move to Real Madrid, with fan frustration boiling over during the draw with United on Sunday.

After that draw, Salah posted a cryptic social media post featuring an image of himself alongside Alexander-Arnold and van Dijk during the game, with no caption. It was discussed by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, with Carragher suggesting Salah and Alexander-Arnold should take a leaf out of van Dijk's book and stay quiet about the ongoing negotiations.
I would say Virgil van Dijk has come out of this whole situation this season as captain of the club in a higher esteem for me, in the way he's conducted himself, his performances on the pitch, the way he's led the team...he hasn't got involved in too much around this.
This is obviously a really important time for all three players, we know that. But, I think, rather than talk about Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mo Salah, I'd like to pay tribute to Virgil van Dijk. I think he's come across as a real statesman, the way he's handled it.
I think the other two could maybe look at Virgil van Dijk and take a leaf out of his book.
It is not the first time that Carragher has criticised Mo Salah this season, with the feud between the two one of the more unexpected subplots of Liverpool's season.
He has already publicly spoken out against Salah's stance on his new contract, and has drawn the ire of Liverpool fans for his apparent refusal to acknowledge Salah's league-leading exploits this season. Even Roy Keane has sided with Liverpool's fanbase in the ongoing debate.
Carragher's latest comments have finally drawn a response from Liverpool's star man.

Jamie Carragher responds as Mo Salah hits out on social media
Mo Salah retweeted Sky Sports' clip of Jamie Carragher criticising him and Trent Alexander-Arnold on Monday night, adding the comment, "I'm starting to think you're obsessed with me" and a winking face emoji.
I’m starting to think you’re obsessed with me 😉 https://t.co/YAnwbaHdRi

It appears as though Salah has had enough of Carragher's perceived slight against him, and Salah's response earned far more engagement on Twitter than the original tweet.
Carragher was on duty on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports when Salah's tweet was sent and was allowed to respond.

Carragher laughed off Salah's jab, bemoaning the fact he had brought yet more controversy on himself while trying to avoid directly criticising Salah.
I mean, I have got a Mo Salah obsession - I don't think it's the kind of obsession he thinks it is! It's more of a footballing obsession and watching him in a red shirt.
I mean, I come in, I get asked a question, I answer as diplomatically as I possibly can, I'm not going to criticise Mo Salah or Trent Alexander-Arnold, I'm gonna rave about how Virgil van Dijk handled [the situation] and I get myself in all kinds of trouble again.
It's a good-natured interaction but it certainly speaks to the deepening tension surrounding Mo Salah's contract situation at Liverpool, which shows no signs of being resolved any time soon.
